Melbourne, AUSTRALIA

In Melbourne, Australia, many felt a sense of grief following the election and continued divisions following the result. They felt the need to be together to support one another, and also to somehow demonstrate to the communities in which they lived that they did not support the hurtful policies and language used by the incoming American administration. This was not who they were, nor what their respective communities stood for.

A group of three women came together to plan a march for January 21, and this quickly blossomed into Women’s March on Melbourne: a gathering of 6,000 individuals that marched peacefully to protest the inauguration of Donald Trump and stand alongside the millions of others around the world demanding equality, diversity and inclusion.
